Apple Cuts iPhone Air Orders Amid Weak Demand

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has reported that Apple is cutting back on iPhone Air orders, joining other analysts who have noted a slowdown in demand, thanks to iPhone Air being far less popular than other iPhone 17 models.

According to Kuo, Apple is reducing both shipments and production capacity for the iPhone Air. Most suppliers are expected to scale back their capacity by more than 80% by the first quarter of 2026. In addition, some components with longer lead times will be discontinued entirely by the end of 2025.

iPhone Air Faces Market Struggles Similar to Past Models

This move suggests that the iPhone Air, much like the iPhone mini and iPhone Plus before it, has struggled to find a strong foothold in the market. Kuo points out that Apple’s Pro and standard models already meet most high-end user needs, leaving little space for new segments like the Air.

While the reduction in production might seem like a failure for the iPhone Air, it does not necessarily mean the end of the line. Apple’s Pro models typically see the highest demand at launch, and the company often adjusts production to support those sales. Apple’s supply chain is known for its flexibility, allowing the company to shift focus as needed.

Future of iPhone Air Remains Uncertain

Non-Pro iPhone models sometimes gain momentum after the initial launch period. However, it remains possible that the current iPhone Air could be the only version we see, depending on how demand develops in the coming months. But still, it is clear to buyers that the iPhone Air is a far less practical buy than the other iPhones due to its lack of specs and features, even at a $999 price point.
