Usman Shahid currently serves as Group Chief – Corporate & Investment Banking at the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP), one of the country’s largest and most strategic financial institutions. In this capacity, he leads a nationwide team responsible for corporate, commercial, and structured finance, as well as trade, transaction, and investment banking. His focus is on driving balanced growth, improving the quality of credit, and designing innovative solutions for key industries such as energy, manufacturing, infrastructure, and public sector enterprises.His leadership at NBP is characterized by his strong command of both business development and risk discipline — ensuring profitability while maintaining portfolio quality and compliance. Strategic Roles at BankIslami Pakistan Limited

Before returning to NBP in this leadership capacity, Usman Shahid served at BankIslami Pakistan Limited as Chief Risk Officer (CRO) and later as Group Head – Wholesale Banking. In these roles, he restructured the bank’s risk framework, improved asset quality, and led the Corporate, Investment, and Transaction Banking divisions. His strategic initiatives helped build a diversified wholesale portfolio and improved profitability through better resource allocation and relationship-driven growth.

Earlier Tenure and Key Contributions at NBP

At the National Bank of Pakistan, his earlier tenure also included key positions such as Group Chief – Credit Management and Group Head – Asset Recovery. During this time, he managed one of the largest credit portfolios in the country, oversaw credit approvals across corporate, SME, retail, and Islamic segments, and led high-impact recovery initiatives. His leadership in asset rehabilitation not only reduced non-performing loans but also transformed regional portfolios into profitable business centers.

Before his leadership roles at NBP and BankIslami, Usman Shahid worked with Habib Bank Limited (HBL), United Bank Limited (UBL), Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC), and Riyad Bank in Saudi Arabia.
