How to pitch, what we pay for, and the standards your copy has to clear.
Pitching
Send a short pitch — three or four paragraphs is plenty — that sets out the story, why it matters now, who you will speak to and what documents you expect to obtain. Tell us if the story is exclusive and if anyone else is working on it.
Standards we hold copy to
- Every factual claim must be attributable to a named source, a document, or an on-record institution
- Anonymous sourcing is allowed only where there is a real risk to the source, and must be explained in the copy
- AI tools may assist with research and editing, but generated text may not be filed as reporting
- Conflicts of interest must be declared before commissioning, not after
Editing and payment
Commissioned pieces are edited for accuracy, structure and clarity. Substantive changes are shown to the writer before publication. Rates are agreed at commissioning and paid within 30 days of publication.
