What we collect, why we collect it, and how you can opt out.
This policy explains what data Verified Pakistan collects when you use this website, and the choices you have. We collect as little as we can, and we do not sell personal data.
What we collect
- Analytics data such as pages viewed, approximate location, device type and referring site, collected in aggregate through Google Analytics (provided via Firebase)
- Your email address, if you subscribe to the newsletter
- The content of a tip or contact message, if you send one
- Local browser storage for your theme preference and whether you have dismissed the newsletter prompt
Analytics
We use Google Analytics, provided through Firebase, to understand which stories are read and how people reach them. It sets cookies and collects a randomly generated identifier, device and browser information, approximate location derived from your IP address, and the pages you view. We do not use it to identify you personally, and we do not combine it with your newsletter subscription.
You can opt out entirely with Google's Analytics opt-out browser add-on, or by blocking cookies for this site. Doing so does not affect your ability to read anything here.
Newsletter and tip submissions
Newsletter addresses are stored in Google Firebase (Firestore) and used only to send the newsletter. Tips submitted through the tip box are stored without any identifying information — no name, no email, no IP address — because the tip box is advertised as anonymous and we will not undermine that.
Cookies and advertising
We use cookies for essential site functions and measurement. Advertising partners, including Google, may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to our site and other sites on the internet.
You can opt out of personalised advertising through Google's Ads Settings, and you can control cookies generally through your browser settings. Users in regions covered by consent legislation will be shown a consent prompt before non-essential cookies are set.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Newsletter emails include a one-click unsubscribe link. Requests go to hello@verifiedpakistan.com.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data.
