The PM Chromebook merit list has been announced for Karachi, and 14,000 top-performing Grade 9 students of government schools have been nominated to receive a free Chromebook under the Prime Minister's Youth Chromebook Scheme. The Board of Secondary Education Karachi, known as BSEK, published the list on its official website and has asked every selected student to check their name and complete registration on the official portal without delay.

PM Chromebook Merit List: 14,000 Karachi Students Selected

The published list nominates 14,000 students from Karachi's government schools. Of these, 12,122 students are from the Science Group and 1,878 are from the General Group, reflecting the size of the two streams in the board's Grade 9 annual examinations 2026.

The scheme is strictly for students of government and public secondary schools affiliated with BSEK. Private school students are not eligible, and their records do not appear in the merit list. Selection is based on merit set by the Inter Boards Coordination Commission, known as IBCC, from the board's official examination results, under reference IBCC/CB/7-15/2026.

Students should understand that appearing in the list is the first step, not the final one. A place on the PM Chromebook merit list means the student has been nominated, but the Chromebook is only issued after the student completes registration on the official IBCC portal and the record is verified.

PM Chromebook Merit List: How to Check Your Name

Students can check whether their name is on the list through the board's official Chromebook Scheme portal at https://bsek.edu.pk/#/chromebook-scheme. The portal lets students search by roll number or by school code.

To check by roll number, choose the roll number option and enter your Grade 9 roll number, with or without leading zeros. To check by school code, choose the school code option to see the nominated students of your school. If your name appears, you are on the merit list and should move to registration at once.

Students who cannot find their name should first check that they entered the roll number correctly. The list contains only the top government-school students according to the IBCC merit, so not every student will be in it. If the record is still missing, the student should contact their school or the board to confirm that their details were forwarded.

How to Register on the Official IBCC Portal

Students who qualify through the BSEK merit list must complete their registration through the Prime Minister's Youth Chromebook Scheme portal at https://pmychromebooks.ibcc.edu.pk/. The portal is run by the IBCC under the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, and registration is completely free.

To register, open the portal and select your board, BSE Karachi. Then enter your roll number, B-Form or registration number, using numbers only with no dashes, along with your date of birth, and search for your record. The portal matches the details against the list your board sent to IBCC.

Once the record is found, check that the name, school and marks shown are correct, then upload the four required documents. Each file must be under 300 KB, or the upload will fail. Submit the form only once, because each student can apply only once and the information cannot be edited after submission. After submitting, save the reference number and download the registration slip.

No last date has been announced yet, and BSEK has asked nominated students to register immediately. Deadlines can differ by board, so students should not wait for a reminder and should complete registration as soon as their record is available on the portal.

PM Chromebook Scheme: 500,000 Free Chromebooks Across Pakistan

The Karachi merit list is part of a much larger national programme. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif formally launched the PM Youth Chromebook Scheme in Islamabad on October 25, 2026, with a target of distributing 500,000 free Chromebooks to top-performing students over the next two years.

The scheme is run by the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training with the Prime Minister's Youth Programme, and the IBCC operates the central portal. It covers top-performing Grade 9 students of government schools, based on the annual examinations of 2026. In Islamabad, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, top students of both Grade 9 and Grade 10 are considered.

Media reports say the policy asks for at least 50 percent marks in SSC-I, with selection by merit within each province or region, board and stream. Each board sends IBCC a list of its top performers, and the portal checks every application against that list, so only students whose names were forwarded by their board can register.

Registration for Sindh students opens on the same IBCC portal once the boards announce their results. According to the IBCC portal, registration is already open for BSE Karachi and BISE Larkana, and it will open for the other Sindh boards after they declare their Grade 9 annual examination 2026 results.

Beware of Fake Websites and Fees

Students should use only the two official addresses: the BSEK merit list portal and the IBCC registration portal. Fake websites and WhatsApp forwards asking for registration fees are already circulating, and the real scheme charges nothing to apply.

No one should enter a CNIC or B-Form number, or pay any money, on any website other than the official portal. Merit lists are prepared from board data, not by agents, and no agent can guarantee a Chromebook. Any person asking for money for registration or selection is running a scam.

If a student's record is not found on the portal, the problem is usually at the board level, because IBCC works from the data the board sends. In that case, the student should contact their school or education board and ask them to confirm that the details were forwarded.
