Official Syed Najam Hassan Biography: 2026 Community Awards

Syed Najam Hassan, a proud Pakistani-Canadian, international award recipient, and community volunteer based in Calgary, Alberta, has dedicated many years to volunteerism and community service, working to make Canada a more caring, inclusive, and compassionate place for everyone.

The inspiration behind Syed’s Free Community Outdoor Pet Food Bank comes from his belief that pets are more than animals — they are family members. As an animal lover himself, Syed shares his home with a cat whom he considers an important part of his family.

When families face rising costs for rent, mortgages, groceries, medicines, utility bills, and other necessities, pet care can become an additional financial burden.

Sadly, some families are forced to consider surrendering their beloved pets to animal shelters or rescue organizations because they can no longer afford to care for them.

Moved by this heartbreaking reality, Syed and his team established the 4 Free Community Outdoor Pet Food Bank to help individuals and families experiencing financial difficulties provide food for their pets.

The mission is simple but powerful: help families through difficult times, support animal welfare, and keep beloved pets where they belong — with the families who love them.
